Weening myself off of the Internet .. slowly

Akasha on Apr 30th 2004

Hello, hello! It’s been a whole 4 days since I last blogged; I’ve been kinda avoiding it and instead working on writing in my actual journal which has been sitting, neglected for so long. I miss that thing. It’s a simple spiral notebook with a whole slew of different things in it, like my stupid short stories and stuff.

Since Monday I’ve gone to Niagara Falls with my mom, aunt and uncle and I’ve pretty much done nothing else for the rest of the week. Except last night I ventured out into the world to see 13 Going on 30 with Jenn, Rachel and Andre (high school friends). It was so cute! I think Jennifer Garner’s a great actress (though I’ve never seen Alias in my life, lol) and Mark Ruffalo is a hottie.

Speaking of high school, I uploaded my grad picture if you want to see it. It’s located here.

I got a night shift tonight. It sucks.

I hope she kills Bill in the end .. that would suck if she didn’t.

Akasha on Apr 26th 2004

Well, I exercised my first privilege of my summer today by sleeping in until two in the afternoon. I lazily rolled my fat ass out of bed, strolled downstairs, ate a bagel for lunch and then played on the computer until 5 o’clock. I called Tatjana, made plans to see Kill Bill Vol. 2 and then, only then, did I go to the washroom to take a shower.

It was glorious.

As for Vol. 2 I was neither horribly disappointed nor was I thrilled by it. The first half was definitely better than the second, but that’s because all of the really cool stuff was in the first half. The second half was definitely funnier and you finally get to find out the Bride’s name which bothered me. I hate how they bleeped out her name like it was a fucking cuss word.

Anyway, I won’t say anymore in case you haven’t seen it.

One thing that’s been on my mind lately has been old lady hair .. When I was on the bus going downtown today there were quite a few old ladies on board. All of them had the same sort of hair: short, curly and frizzy. Now I understand the frizzy part but what about the curly and short? Is there some sort of code that old ladies have to follow? “In order to be seen in public, after the age of 65 you must shear your hair and curl it every day. The colour may vary to your taste, but no long hair allowed!” That’s just weird.

Zombies, Betty Paige & ATMOI

Akasha on Apr 24th 2004

Let me tell you about my surreal adventure last night. A friend of mine, Toast, asked me to go see a band play at Moe’s Tavern last night. She was going with a friend of hers from New Brunswick but he’s a guy and she needed a little titty support cause she wasn’t comfortable being around only guys the entire night. Plus, if she needed to spend the night, she had my place. So I decided to go. Moe’s Tavern is honestly in the middle of Buttfuck, Ontario. It’s inbetween Waterdown and Girlington surrounded by trees, a Tim Horton’s and a John Deere machinery supplier. So my father drives me out there at eight o’clock in the evening cause he didn’t want to take me an hour later at nine. That was fine cause at least it was a ride. He didn’t want to leave me though because as soon as we pull up a couple of guys decided to have themselves a little tustle. So I’m waiting for Melba, my father wheels back around and asks me if I really want to stay.

I’m already annoyed cause he dropped me off an hour early so I told him to just go home. I tried to call Toast but she message’s me back saying her phone was dying. That’s. Just. Wonderful.

To make a long story short, I waited for two hours. Toast and the band pulled up at around 10 o’clock, the same time the cab that I called for pulled up. I decided to stay after all, although I was annoyed that I had to wait for so long; annoyed not only at her for being late - cause she said to meet her there at 9 - but also at myself for having arrived a full hour early. By 10 o’clock a group of people had decided to congregate around me so I didn’t look as pathetic as I probably did. They were nice for taking pity on me but I really didn’t know what to talk about with them and they just sort of ignored me even though they were standing around with me.

I should mention that I was waiting outside the entire time in 5 degree weather. I was wearing a sweater and a jean jacket but I was still freezing my ass off. My feet were super cold cause I was wearing my new Adidas shoes that are paper thin. Ya, I probably looked like a loser. I didn’t want to pay the $6 cover charge to get in though! Plus, I was just going to be sitting at a booth nursing a coke looking stupid inside anyway. I figured I might as well have saved myself some cash and waited outside; so I did.

Well, finally they arrived. Toast apologized profusely and introduced me to her friend from New Brunswick (woo, worth the wait in himself, he was SUPER HOT) and we got inside. The tv screens were playing Day of the Dead on mute. Since it took the band a while to set up we sat there watching for awhile. It was super gross. But it was oddly appropriate once the second last band began playing. While zombies were tearing people apart, this band called Mare a Day played. The only thing I can describe their sound is like a cross between Tool and a mother giving birth. The music was kinda slow and melodius but at times hard and rough and all the while, instead of singing, the guitarist would utter these high pitched screams of anguish. Some things I could make out as words: don’t, no, fucker; but most of it was just raw wailing. It was kind of cool.

The band that Toast came along with was At the Mercy of Inspiration (ATMOI). They were so good. My ears are still ringing from the speakers, but they had so much energy and they were just so good. I wish I had the money to pick up a t-shirt while I was there, but I didn’t. They’re playing Toronto soon. Perhaps I can convince Toast to go with me to see them again :)

Anyway, that was my night in a very big nutshell. I haven’t had an exciting Friday night in awhile so it was good to go out and see a show.

One more exam

Akasha on Apr 22nd 2004

I’m almost finished the first year. I had a killer exam that pretty much raped me in half today, but it’s over and I don’t really care about the outcome - so long as I pass, I suppose. That would always be a good thing, wouldn’t it?

Oh no. I’m on ebay again … :D I’m so baaad.

Graduation quotes are hard to choose

Akasha on Apr 20th 2004

I’m getting sick again. This is upsetting cause I have two more exams to go through, I don’t need to be sick again. I can’t afford it!! Boourns. Don’t you hate that sore throat that you get in the beginning of a cold? It feels so horrible and all I want to do is rip my larynx out so it’ll stop itching so badly.

My mother took me to Costco today so we could pick up food for an event she’s catering this weekend. There’s going to be over 300 people; we needed to buy 5 boxes of eggs. That was insane. We’ve never bought 5 boxes. There’s 120 eggs in each box, I think.

I finally got my yearbook yesterday. I was looking at the graduation section to see if they got my quote right - they did - and I found something interesting; some kid had the same quote as I did!! Not entirely, but it was close. At the end of mine I added: “There is no spoon” - an homage to my favourite movie, The Matrix. Two pages later I find the same four words next to some kid, but that’s all he wrote! I was angry at first cause I thought I was being original, but then the anger faded. My quote is more personal because I made reference to other people in it and wrote a little something in Polish as well :) Thankfully, they chose a good picture of me for the yearbook as well; I was scared they wouldn’t.

Writing Block

Akasha on Apr 19th 2004

Ya, so new layout (officially, speaking). I can’t remember where I got the tile from; if it’s yours and I don’t have the right to use it, give me a shout and I’ll pull it down faster than a dress on prom night.

Don’t you hate it when you can’t think of something to write down, like you have nothing left to say to the world, no opinion, no judgement? I’m drawing a complete blank at the moment. Perhaps that’s why memes came to exist; people just couldn’t think of something to write so they decided to answer a bunch of absurd questions in their blogs so they could fill up a bit of space. Every now and then I’ll give one a try. Sometimes it’s cause I really can’t think of anything to say and other times the questions are interesting.

Well, that’s it for now I guess. I’m going to St. Mary’s again today to see if I can pick up my yearbook this time.
