Sunrise Over Ibiza

Akasha on Mar 2nd 2008

Well, I officially broke tfl.org, which sucks cause I’m trying to update the Movies category. Oh well, it gives me time to write.

I wish it wasn’t Sunday. I wish it was Monday and I was on holiday for like five weeks. I’m so tired of this winter. I know I keep saying that but I really need spring to finally grace us with its presence. I’m liable to fly away to somewhere warm and blissfully sunny if it doesn’t soon. I dreamed of Ibiza sunrises each night this week.

Speaking of sunny destinations, I’m nearly done writing up my trip to Central America. I need to post the photos on flickr and everything will be ready for posting. I think I’ll post it in a few installments like the last trip to give everyone a chance to actually read it. If you read it in one setting I think you would go blind. I’ve tried keeping it succinct but that’s just not in the cards. How do you sum up three weeks of travel in like two pages? It’s just impossible. I think I’m doing very well, though. I’m halfway through and it’s about seven pages on Word.

In other news, I’m in a play at the synagogue for Purim. I thought it would be scary and bad but so far it looks good. The songs are appropriately funny enough (they’re just famous Broadway tunes with altered lyrics) and they don’t seem to be too upset with a goy nosing in. Plus, in one of the numbers I get to wear a wedding dress, which should be hilarious and nothing short of spectacular cause I’ll get to freak G out, except now the cat is out of the bag… Oops!

Man, everyone should back up their iTunes library if they haven’t done it yet. Honestly, both G and I lost ours this week (mine intentionally, his not so much) and it’s been chaos. With 23 gigs of music how do you find your favourites?!

Books and Food = Mmm

Akasha on Dec 1st 2007

I have been keeping track of the books I read for about a year now but it wasn’t until around midpoint this year that I decided to actually track the month and year the book was read in. I was inspired by the extensive collection of Art Garfunkel. Whether I can keep a record for thirty + years of the books I read is debatable but it’s worth a shot to keep it going as long as possible.

One of the reasons I chose to keep a record was because I often forget a book that I’ve read years ago. One day it pops up in my mind but I have trouble recollecting the plot or the characters. Take for instance The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I know I’ve read most of them but I can’t remember which book I have not read or what happened in the books that I did read. Or take for example the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell. I know I’ve read most of the books apart from her newest works. However, I can’t for the life of me recall what happened in them. I don’t even remember where I stopped reading! It’s a bit frustrating.

The problem could be that I have a bad memory, that’s true. Still, I’ve found it much easier to record each book that I’ve read on this website and I think it has helped. Each book on my list I recall reading. I know the stories, I know the plots, I know the characters. Maybe it’s too early to tell but I think it’s helped a lot.

I thought about making the same kind of list for films because I have the same issue with movie plots, etc. I don’t know why, but it doesn’t feel as though it would be as rewarding. Maybe I’m just a book snob?

On an entirely different note, I’ve just found out what a po’boy is and I’m anxious to try one. They look both filling and comforting at the same time. Plus, they come in a variety of seafood-y goodness.

In fact, I’ve discovered recently the wonderful goodness that is the food blog (flog? blood -pronounced blue-d?!). I don’t cook a lot at home but boy, do some of these websites make me want to start! It’s hard having a mom who’s also a caterer. No, seriously! For all of my life she has been the one to make dinner every night and it’s difficult to get out of that mindframe. I find myself thinking things like she’d be upset if I tried cooking dinner or she’ll just meddle if I try and make anything (which she actually has but not too often).

You know, I bet if I asked her, though, she’d be more than happy to give up the right to cook for a night. It must suck eventually to have to cook every single night.

Another obstacle in my way is that I don’t really know what is in my mom’s kitchen. It certainly isn’t my kitchen. I bet if I asked her where everything is she’d be able to tell me lickety-split. It’s like my study - I’m sure she wouldn’t know where to find a book but if she were to ask me I’d be able to find it without a problem. When I enter the kitchen with the intent to actually make something larger than a sandwich or a glass of egg nog (oh yeah, it’s that time of the season, people!) I’m kind of mystified. AND, if I ask where she keeps x, y, or z, she often just makes me move and finds it herself.

I’m making excuses, I know. If I really want to start cooking for myself I should just do it. Case in point, I made chicken quesadillas two nights ago. While they weren’t the fanciest quesadillas (no guac, unfortunately. L) they were pretty tasty!

Tonight has been an amalgamation

Akasha on Sep 18th 2005

I’ve had a lovely time doing surprisingly not much tonight. The following words describe tonight perfectly:

Indian Summer, Church & Wellesley, Indian cigarettes, TIFF, Rodney Carvalho (I hope you google yourself, you silly fuck), Hong Kong action flicks, dogwalkers, ‘Apartment for Rent’, spanking, discourse on one-night stands, ‘Cube’, vibrators, to rush or not to rush, techno beats, transvestites.

It was a good night. I had a lot of fun for not much money and I got to see my baby.

Ahoy hoy!

Akasha on Apr 10th 2005

Yeesh, I seem to be upsetting everyone with the fact that I don’t update often ;) Leah, to be fair, I had to catch a bus to see the Gentleman and it ended up that I didn’t get the chance to update! A thousand apologies and I hope you’re feeling better :X

It’s midnight. I’ve come home from a lacrosse game - which was more exciting than it sounds! - and some really good Indian food. Oh wait, I’m not home. I’m at the Gentleman’s! :D

Here comes the rain again, falling from the stars

Akasha on Mar 13th 2005

At work, Melissa kept singing Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Over and over and over. Now, I like that song as much as the next person, but she only sang one line from it. I really did want to hurt her. At one point I threw a mayou packet at her.

I’m an Actors staffer at TFL. Look at me, just gobbling up the responsibility!

I had a sleep-over last night. There was tequila and sourpuss involved. Nothing interesting happened though; we mostly watched Y tu mam tambin and Eternal Sunshine, ate chips, drank lots of V8 Splash and talked. It was enjoyable, except Rachel and Suzie boggarted the floor, Turco had the couch and I was relegated to the bloody Lay-z-Boy. Ah well, I went to bed when they left at 6am :D

Maggie’s birthday is coming up :X I have no clue what to get you, Maggie. What if I just get you spectacularly drunk when we go out, will that suffice? :D

If you’re wondering where I buggered off to, it was no where. I simply was not speaking up. Happy New Year to those of you who come by still :) It’s good of you to do so, though I am pretty quiet and this place has pretty much turned into my fanlisting collective.

For the most part my life has been boring. On New Year’s I got smashed royally and hung out with friends from work at a house party. It was great fun and I wish I could remember more of what I said or did, but I suppose half the fun of getting that drunk is finding one day something you remembered about that night you hadn’t before, like a dollar you find in your pocket that you didn’t know you had or something like that. Sometimes I just like lying in bed pondering about these sort of nights until a silly grin spreads across my face at the stupid things I may have done.

Leah came down with her boyfriend for Christmas. Unfortunately, they did not stay long and I couldn’t see them as often as I wanted to = / I think I ended up pissing Leah off anyway since I decided not to go to a mutual friend’s party. I just .. didn’t need to see all of those people again. For what it’s worth, Leah, I’m sorry.

If it’s any consolation, I bring you this:

For the less astute of you, that’s Leah and Blair in the picture :) I took it in July of 2004 when I visited Leah in Ottawa.
