You know, life can sometimes throw you a curveball. It hits you, you fall flat on your face and you sit there dumbly for a minute wondering just what the hell happened. I’m not talking about anything really substantial, but I’m sure that analogy can be applied to pretty much anything. A few days ago I received the rejection letter from the fanlisting network regarding my application for the Matrix fanlisting. Many of my close personal friends know that the Matrix is my all-time #1 favourite movie. Ever. I mean, ever. Movies come and go, but the Matrix will always be there for me. So I was of course crushed when I found Hoppy had chosen someone else to build the fanlisting, especially because I thought for sure my application would have convinced her. Of course, it honestly didn’t but whatever.
Right now it’s 6:24 in the morning. I just checked my email and found something incredibly wonderful, though. A few days ago, as well, the current owner of the Mr. Smith fanlisting decided to offer it up for adoption. I being crushed by the letdown of not getting the Matrix of course sent her an email. I found out that she chose me to be the new owner just a few minutes ago and it’s like a ray of sunshine on my weary back. I’m weary because of work, by the way. Don’t forget I just got home from a night shift
There are things in life that seem trivial to others. You who are reading this right now may not be interested in fanlistings, may not even know what a fanlisting is (they’re addictive, believe me!). To me, they are a great hobby. I don’t have many in my life. Since I began designing web sites two and a half years ago, well there really hasn’t been anything else that has caught my fancy. So, in this incredibly long-winded post I believe I am trying to make a point. The point is, just because there are momentary setbacks in life - whether it is in regards to a fanlisting, a bank loan, a lover or whatever else - things will always come back up again.
I suppose this is just the eternal optimist in me rushing out and greeting you in the morning. I’m off to start that fanlisting now, though

So you got Smith, eh? Congrats! Even though I’m secretly extremely jealous :P. I didn’t get the Matrix either (not that I expected to). I know Hoppy had a difficult decision to make, and there are a LOT of people who feel strongly about the Matrix. I would have loved Agent Smith (hell, how can you not?) but I know it’ll do well in your hands :). Anyway, I may be e-mailing you about affiliates soon. Not about Smith, but something matrix related, yes ;).

I was grumpy…now I’m happy. I love when people’s blogs do that to me.
Congrats on getting the Mr. Smith fanlisting…sometimes things do work out. I love your optimism..

congratulations on the mr smith fanlisting. that’s a good one to have, as well. i remember my sister, after seeing the first one, memorising that scene when they first get neo and put the bug in him, interrogation style. "help your land lady carry out her garbage", y’know? oh, the memories.

i KNOW exactly how addictive fanlistings are. i own 3/4 of them myself and am constantly checking tfl.org for updates. i’m even subscribed to the bloglet update thing so i get a daily email of the updates. sad, eh? anyway, i kinda agree with your theory about things turning out for the better. except i’ve been waiting three years for things to get better, without any luck. bleh, excuse my pessimism, lol
congrats on getting that fanlisting anyway!

I just wanted to say, as a fan of what you do here at toxic-bliss, I’m glad you got the Agent Smith fanlisting. It deserves the best (sorry if that seems out of nowhere, but Claire - of boourns - and I were discussing the Matrix fl and she mentioned that you got Smith, so I thought I’d congratulate you)

I think that’s terrible. What gave the fanlistings the right to say whether or not you could open what is essentially just a clique? I say you do one for The Matrix anyways.

I didn’t even think about applying for the Matrix fanlisting. As much as I love the movie, I knew I’d get rejected. Sorry to hear that you did. Congrats on the Agent Smith one, though! That’s awesome. I also thought about applying for that one, but I figured there are probably bigger fans out there. I’m glad you ended up with it.
